Description:
Come along for a 2nd annual thrifty climbing trip to Skaha Bluffs in the Okanagan, just outside of Penticton. The drive from the UBC campus is just under 5 hours.
We will be driving out Friday night, leaving at 6pm, camping at Old Hedley Road rec sites, and climbing the following day at Skaha. The next night we will camp at Idleback Lake rec site near Skaha the 2nd night, and climb before then returning Sunday afternoon/night. So 2 nights of car camping, and 1-2 days of climbing. Note the weather will be pretty cold, so please bring warm clothes/gear for wearing and climbing.
We will need to assess gear and climbing level to judge where we will be climbing and how many ropes we have. If you have a Skaha Guidebook please let me know!
Besides the climbing and camping you must also dress up for this event. The outfits will be custom designed by you! If you get the chance swing by the thriftiest shop you can find or grab whatever is lying in the bottom of your closet. Why? Why not!
The mandatory rule from the previous year's trip: “all prospective attendees must be willing to dress up in the gaudiest outfits your fellow VOC attendees want to subject you to and climb in it for a bit.”
Additionally, I will be reaching out to the VOCO at UBCO to see if we can get any fun cross campus friends to come along.
**PLEASE NOTE: Rock 2/Equivalent is a prerequisite as we need people who can set up / take down anchors, with preference for Rock 3
Additionally: Gas costs could this trip could easily be from 50-100$ per person given the length of the drive and cost of gas.
