Description:

**Update: Pre-trip meeting is Monday the 15th in the clubroom at 5pm!**

The club's annual spring workhike to Harrison Hut is coming up!

Thanks to grizzlies, landslides, and more, accessing Harrison is an ongoing issue, so we are only permitted by the government to visit the hut twice a year to do maintainence. On this workhike, tasks at the hut will include dismantling the old outhouse, assessing the firewood stock, carrying up the past year's journal, taking photos of the hut signs in case they need to be updated, marmot-proofing the new outhouse, and doing a general checkover of the hut to detect any other issues.

In addition, one crew of people will be staying back to do work on an alternative FSR that we hope to use in order to have consistent access to the hut in the future. This is because the FSR currently used may soon be abandoned by the logging companies that maintain it, and when that happens the road will quickly become undrivable because of landslide activity along the route. The alternate FSR is on much more stable terrain. The road work group will most likely not be able to go up to the hut.

The trailhead is a 6 hour drive from Vancouver, followed by a difficult ~6k approach.

In order to attend this workhike, you must:

- Have previously been on an overnight backcountry ski or snowshoe trip to a hut, and have made it there in a reasonable time.

- Have sufficient fitness, endurance, and skill to travel efficiently in the backcountry with a heavy pack.

The primary purpose of this workhike is work, and we only get two opportunites a year to do it, so everyone who comes should be committed to helping do the work!

Pre-trip meeting time TBD, will be updated soon.

Decisions about the trip roster will be determined based on a combination of drivers, experience, and order on the committed list. PLEASE only sign up as committed if you are actually committed and are sure you can make it.
