Description:
Part 3 of a series of trips and talks on alpine plants and ecology. This trip will be focused on looking at plants and ecology in Manning Provincial Park and getting farmiliar with some common alpine plants. We plan to hike the Three Brothers Trail, which begins with beautiful wildflower filled sub-alpine meadows and climbs up to an alpine ridge. We'll hike about 21 km and camp at Nicolman lake. It sounds like a long way, but most of the trail is ridge walking with minimal elevation gain.
Manning also has interesting forsets and bogs at lower elevation and it would be great to explore one of these as well if there is time.
For gear you should have for this trip see the summer packing list. We will try to open the club for gear hours in the week before the trip, or during the pre-trip. If you want to join but are missing some gear you need please reach out.
It would also be useful to get a field guide to Alpine or Native plants bring on this trip, VPL, the UBC library and VOC club room all have couple good ones.
