This is a day trip hike up Colliseum Mountain in Lynn Canyon Park, which is accessible by translink so it is a great trip if you don't have a car! Also great if you've got too many midterms and papers to justify spending an entire weekend playing (this is me). If you're ambitious it is also possible to bike to the park entrance (Headwaters), but I can't join as I do not have a bike at the moment :( Most of the hike is through the forest, which is nice because if it rains (which it probably will) there will be lots of beautiful mist. Don't let the fact that the park is accessible by bus scare you off...the trail up Coliseum mountain is not frequented and is definitely far from a typical walking path. Round trip is about 22 km and 1200 m elevation gain there's lots of fun, squishy mud so wear good boots and gaiters! The plan is to meet at the gates to Headwaters at 8:00 am. The walk from the gates into the park is about 1 km down a road. Email me (below) if you are planning on busing and maybe we could go together!
Translink accessible (or you can bike) For bus route click on 'Colliseum Mountain' in General Info section above
Anyone leaving from UBC should EMAIL ME and we can arrange to meet and bus together Saturday morning. [email protected]
How much does it cost?
probably nothing! (unless you drive)
What to bring
- clothes to hike in and stay warm and dry (no cotton!). make sure to bring good rain gear and boots since it might (probably) rain! Gaiters are always good :)
- a water bottle (at least 1L, 2L is better)
- Lunch and snacks for 1 day
What you might also want to bring if you have it
- a headlamp
