Great Day!
All in all there were 17 people who came out for some portion of the festivities. We had a great deal of success from those participating. a few people managed to roll their boats and I think every body had a good time. Who know's, perhaps we'll do it again soon.
hing to come for a river run later in the day meet at TIM'S for 1:00 PM
Gear
- Gear: Kayak, paddle, skirt, helmet, wet suit(optional), dry top, gloves, booties, nose plugs, plenty of energy and a snack, maybe lunch too.
- Gear can be rented from MEC, Sea to Sky Kayak Shop, and possibly else where.
- Cost: roughly 30-40 bucks a day.
- Gear will need to be organized per person, but I would suggest the we divid gear rental by car/transportation group) that way people can all go to MEC, etc. together.
Training
I had planned to set up either at the bottom of the river or in a nice flat water pool up river, depending on the location. With newbies getting there early in the day we can do all the training in the one pool and then when the others show we can have a nice liesurely paddle down stream with lots of support.
in the training we will go over the following
- wet exits
- self and assisted rescues
- basic strokes
- and water dynamics. (don't worry it won't get too technical)
SUPPORT NEEDED
It's fantastic that so many people are coming out. but as a diclaimer, I am not an instructor. I have some on the water experience and patience (I think) but it would be great to have some more support for a group this size. Most simply put with more people there to help with instruction there will be less sitting around while I work one on one. That said...
