Description:

Cayoosh descent routes

Basic outline:

Summit Cayoosh Mountain on the 1st day via Armchair Glacier. Reaching the summit involves bootpacking with an ice axe, otherwise we could also just climb to the col between the Northeast and Armchair glaciers and descend from there. Descend either the Northeast Glacier or Million Dollar Couloir to Seven Mile Lake to make camp. Next day, climb over the ridge between Marriott Basin and Cayoosh Creek to reach Wendy Thompson Hut, and ski the Wendy Thompson trail out to the parking lot.

Alternatively:

Leave at 6pm the night before (Friday) to car camp at the trailhead, or near the Cayoosh Hut. Early start up to Cayoosh Mountain, aiming to camp near Wendy Thompson Hut (big day, about 1600m elevation gain). Next day ascend to Mt Rohr and ski back to the car.

Rough route here: https://caltopo.com/m/1AC3

Requirements:

The route is in complex avalanche terrain so AST1 is mandatory. As always, trip is dependent on avalanche conditions. Since we will be winter camping, you should have experience skinning and skiing with an overnight pack. The skiing difficulty will depend on the route we take, but given the uncertainty, you should be comfortable with steep skiing. The descent from Cayoosh Mountain to the col separating the Northeast and Armchair glaciers, as well as Million Dollar Couloir (if we take that route) will involve skiing on 45° slopes.

I'd like to keep to 2 cars at most to reduce the faff.
