Description:

Have you ever wanted to go to Golden Ears Provincial Park? Have you ever wanted to do a self-propelled trip? Do you like cinammon buns?

If so, this is the trip for you.

My name is Melissa and I like bikes, among other things. I have done some overnight bike touring trips this year, but never to Golden Ears. Golden Ears was actually the first provincial park I went to in BC when touring universities in high school. The road in the park is lovely with Cedar smell <3

Because this is a long weekend, I was hoping to do a more relaxed adventure to Golden Ears over 3 days.

The tentative plan is as follows...

Saturday: Not super early start, bike/drive to Golden Ears, camp in hopefully not horrible rain (camping spot tbd - either Gold Creek (near the lake) or further up at Hikers Beach or Alders Flats backcountry campsties). Bikers would leave from Grounds for Coffee at 10/alma at approx 8am. Drivers could leave in the afternoon if they wanted to. Really its flexible.

Sunday: chill aronud the lake, hike/bike around the trails, maybe attempt a summit of Golden Ears depending on the interest/weather.

Monday: Leasuirely bike/drive back to the city, maybe get more cinammon buns.

The bike ride is about 75km from Grounds for Coffee at 10/alma to Alder Flats and less if we camp at Aloutte Lake/Gold Creek. Pretty flat until you get to Maple Ridge where you ascent quite a bit when entering Golden ears (700m elevation over like 20km). There might be a slight bike-n-hike up to Alder Flats campground, if you have info on the trails in Golden Ears - shoot me an email!

If biking 75km with overnight gear does not sound appealing, then by all means you can drive. I can help a bit with car groups but ideally you would be able to organize rides with people in your bubble/wear masks if they are not. Feel free to sign up as interested and we can work something out. Also it can definitely be an option to do a one-night overnight.

There is an accompanying tentative Sunday day hike that the groups can meet up with.

If you were to drive, it would be a 5 minute walk in to Gold Creek Campsite or 300m 3km hike to Alder Flats campsite.

I just want to go to Golden Ears and preferably not do it alone.
If someone wants to drive and carry my panniers, I might not be opposed.

I will buy Grounds cinammon buns to anyone who bikes with me! They are decadent.

Yes, it will be rainy. Hopefully it won't be rainy the whole time. Yes, cozying up in beautiful cedar trees can be lovely. Yes there will likely be snow at Golden Ears peak. Yes I hope for sun.

If you have never bike toured before, shoot me an email and I can help get you kitted out. The club has waterproof panniers and I have some friends who have extra racks and panniers that they could possibly lend out. If people drive, we could probably arrange for them to carry your overnight gear so the bike ride will be more enjoyable :)
