Description:

Golden Ears Provincial Park has some of the most gorgeous mountains, streams, and forests that western BC has to offer. I figure what better way to experience Golden Ears than a hike up the park's most prominent and namesake mountain. The route up to Golden Ears is roughly 11.1 km and has about 1,500 m of elevation gain if started from the Gold Creek parking lot, so it is quite steep especially with an overnight pack.

The plan would be to meet at the Gold Creek parking lot around 7:30 - 8:00 in an attempt to beat the crowd. From there, I would like to camp at Panorama Ridge (~10.2 km from the trailhead) Saturday night, this might require us to bring extra water, as there is no permanent water source and there may be no snow around the campsite this time of year. However, camping at Alder Flats (~5.6 km from the trailhead) is always an option that does have a permanent water source, but it is farther from the peak and has nowhere near the views. Those who are interested can attempt a summit of Golden Ears either Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, although this is very dependent on the weather, conditions, and gear we have. My plan would be to play it by ear, however, it would be great if someone with more mountaineering experience could come.

The cost would be 5$ per person for the backcountry camping permit + gas money to your driver. Here is an article with a bit more information on the hike https://www.outdoorvancouver.ca/golden-ears-summit-hike/ . We can discuss specifics, gear, etc. at the pre-trip meeting, but feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
