Description:

Winter travel in the mountains is some of the most beautiful scenery you’ll ever see, but are you prepared for the hazards that come with it? Is this your first winter ever? Have you taken AST but feel rusty?

This 2 hour VOC participatory lecture will feature a discussion of winter hazards and some things you can do to keep safe. this is NOT a substitute for taking an AST 1 course! This event is only for awareness!

If you have done AST this event can be a valuable refresher for a new season. If you haven’t taken it, this is a great chance to learn a little more before your course (register soon, the VOC courses fill up fast!).

We will discuss:

1) What is an avalanche? How does it form? What kinds are there?

2) Avalanche forecasts

3) The Human factor: how all of us together are dumber than all of us alone

4) The weather for the upcoming weekend

Room to be determined in 2022, please check back later!

The atmosphere will be casual, with lots of time to chat and ask questions. Bring your notepad, but also feel free to bring some beverages too!
