Description:

The Graduate Student Society and the Varsity Outdoor Club is pleased to present our first collaborative hike together! Lynn Peak is a 5-6 hour hike on the North Shore, accessible via transit.  There will be a total of 20 spots for this trip- 10 for VOC members and 10 for GGS members. Maybe you are both! We will sort spots out at the pre-trip meeting. If you are coming with the VOC, sign up here. If you are with the GGS sign up via the eventbrite link. Either way, you must come to the pre-trip meeting if you want to come (details below)

Its a fairly simple trail with nothing too shocking, but a good level of fitness is required. Make sure you are comfortable hiking uphill for a long time. However, you should come along if you think you are up for it! Maybe you have done ultras, and maybe this is one of your first hikes- so long as you are able to easily walk 10km with a fair bit of elevation, come along! I wouldn’t say beginner friendly, but maybe almost beginner friendly? Smiles are required as mandatory though, the pain in the knees down for old people like me is not an excuse.

I would expect to take around 2-3 hours up depending on pace, and some may have time to go to the south needle (we may break into two groups, as 20 people on one hike is a lot). Its transit accessible so nice and easy to get to.

I might bike up and back so if anyone fancies trying to beat the bus then join me! Either way, you can meet at the London Drugs on Granville St (https://g.page/LondonDrugsGranvilleSt?share) at 8:15AM, or at the End of the line Country at 9:30AM (https://goo.gl/maps/iJa9eReHNmcR4MGi8). We will discuss this further at the very brief pre trip meeting on Wednesday night before the hike. Only those who attend will have the chance to join, but if others turn up then that’s fine. I just want to cover plans and get an idea of numbers. Shouldn't last more than 20 mins.

Maybe we can grab a beer afterward, or go for a swim in the pools, so bring something to swim in if you are up for a cold dip.

In terms of equipment and gear: runners or hiking shoes should be fine, a backpack with lots of food and at least 2L of water, hiking poles if you get painful knees and sunscreen. If you have questions you can google what to bring on a day hike or contact me- im easy, ideally use your common sense too- no one needs to bring a frying pan, just some upbeat energy.

See you on Wed 24th!
