Still going through the motions of summertime sadness? Want to get one last cheeky scramble in before the weather turns? More importantly, are you feeling spooky, but can't wait for Halloween?
Then join me on this last minute day hike + scramble up The West Lion! The weather looks to be great on Sunday, so let's make the most of it while it still lasts. Had my calendar blocked off on the chance I could make the cut for Daughter of Dry-tool, but it seems to be rescheduled anyways.
Will send out the Zoom link for the pre-trip on the day of, but feel free to email me if you can't make it!
Plan:
- Park at the Lions Bay trailhead (Sunset Drive) or alternatively Lions Bay Elementary School
- Arrive to the trailhead by 8am and begin the slog up via Binkert Trail
- Reach the West Lion col, suit up and begin shenanigans
- Enjoy the summit views while they last (lunch break)
- Descend and ice cream stop maybe?
Pre-reqs:
- You should have some scrambling experience and at least be comfortable on Class 4 terrain. Be warned, there is quite a bit of exposure on sections of the scramble so it's not for the faint of heart!
- Previous hiking experience. We'll be hiking around ~15km with ~1500m elevation gain so expect a bit of slogging.
What to bring:
- Helmet (mandatory)
- Essentials for a day hike (if you have to ask, this trip probably isn't for you)
- Something festive, but not mandatory :-) I will be bringing up a little onesie I've never gotten to wear before and most likely will just be scrambling up in it unless I'm feeling spicy
