Description:

Hey everyone,

Don’t have any plans for next weekend? Always wanted to get out to the amazing Phelix hut? Why not dress up in your favourite halloween costume and hike out to Phelix for some good 'ol fashioned VOC fun. I’m talking potlucking, games, jumping in ice-cold water - the works!

So, what’s the plan?

We’ll start the ~3.5-hour drive up to Phelix early Saturday morning (think 6/7 AM). From there, it’s a ~5.5km hike to the hut, though this might be extended to ~10km if the cars/terrain don’t allow us to get up to the 4WD parking lot. Okay, great, we got to the hut, now what?

  • Explore the area!
  • Have an amazing potluck meal and compensate some calories by eating way too much candy
  • Experience Type II fun by jumping in the lake right outside the front door
  • Stargaze at night
  • Have a great time!

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and we’ll start heading back to Vancouver early Sunday afternoon. We might grab dinner along the way and hope to be back at some point in the evening.

I’m in, what do I need?

This trip aims to be beginner friendly! There’ll probably be some snow*, so I VERY strongly advise hiking boots (not sneakers!). If you don’t have a pair, the club rents them and you might be able to borrow them from someone. We’ll go over all the gear you’ll need during the pre-trip meeting, but think: food, warm clothes, sleeping gear and candy!

Just in case the text above didn’t sell you on the trip, maybe this will:

*=There’s a slight chance we’ll need snowshoes. If needed, these can be rented from the club

P.S. Want to co-lead this trip, have tons of experience with snow or have questions? I’d love to hear from you! Click on This Member and send me an email or text.
