Description:

No, we’re not going to climb it. But it would be cool to get up close and take some photos.

The Table is a legendary mountain in Garibaldi that’s only been climbed a handful of times. It has sheer walls on all sides and a completely flat top. Those walls are made of the worst volcanic choss known to man, making climbing it a risky endeavor (to put it mildly). Over the new year, I was up at Sphinx hut and managed to get a good look at The Table. Surprisingly, it actually looked pretty filled in on the side, making me wonder if some sort of winter route might exist. Hence this trip. I want to get up close to the base and take some detailed photos of possible routes.

The plan would be to tour up to Sphinx hut on Friday (14 km, 1000 m gain), go up to the base of the table on Saturday and ski a bit on the way back to the hut. Then, on Sunday we would make it back to the cars. All-in-all these are pretty hefty days, so you should be a fairly confident skier to go on this trip. That being said, the focus of the trip isn’t going to be to ski big lines. So, the requirements are ability to ski black runs (not necessary well) and have AST-1.

Here’s a great article about The Table to build some hype: https://hikeinwhistler.com/index.php/hiking-glossary/453-the-table
