My all-time favorite outdoor activity is ridge-walking--cruising above treeline on tundra and rock, with no vegetation to break the view or slow the pace.  Luckily, there's a 45-kilometer stretch of ridge connecting Phelix Hut to Tenquile Lake!  With the approach to Phelix and the descent from Tenquile, the total distance would be a bit over 60 kilometers.  The plan is to leave Friday early evening, at the latest, and get cars in position for a car shuttle.  We'd try to get to Phelix hut Friday night and camp there, and then, start the traverse Saturday morning.  Saturday and Sunday would be full days of walking on the ridgeline, and then Monday we would descend and do the car shuttle and drive back to Vancouver.

I don't have any formal criteria for who should come, but as a rough idea, you should be comfortable scrambling, and capable of walking all day off trail with an overnight pack.  Saturday and Sunday we would be doing about 20 kilometers a day with 2,000 meters of total elevation gain, and a similar amount of elevation loss.  We may also be foot-skiing down some snowfields.  Here are some indications that you are ready:

*You could do the Grouse Grind without a pack in under an hour and 10 minutes, or jog 10 kilometers without stopping
*You can confidently scramble.  (A good test is if you've done something like Black Tusk, Lions, Sky Pilot or Gandalf at Phelix.  If you can climb outdoors, you should also be good).
*You would be one of the faster people on a VOC beginner friendly trip

If you're not sure about your ability but want to come, please join the Phelix Hut Horseshoe Traverse the week before.  That trip WILL be beginner friendly because there's many points to bail, and it will be an excellent test of whether you're ready for the full traverse.  Otherwise, feel free to email me and we'll chat :)

Cheers and looking forward to it!
