Description:

are you fun-employed? got a flexible schedule? or just so unbelievably stoked to help repair the roof of phelix hut that you’re willing to ditch your 9-5 during the week? then this is the trip for you! (if you’ve got no idea what i’m on about, or just want an overview then check out the overall phelix workhike posting: https://www.ubc-voc.com/tripagenda/details.php?tripid=3363)

the plan would be to leave either Sunday evening or early Monday morning and ideally return Thursday evening or Friday depending on availability. don’t worry if you’re not available for that full amount of time - please sign up anyway because depending on driver availability, i’m happy to have staggered arrivals/departures as some people working for shorter periods of time is better than no people. ideally looking for 8-10 people total. drivers, please sign up, unless you want to ride 4 hours up the sea to sky in my '95 honda civic with mediocre to non-existent A/C :)

since we’ll be picking up from where the weekend crew left off post helicopter drop there will be plenty of things to do. construction experience highly valued but not necessary - there will be other things to do like bringing in and preparing food, and being generally useful.

given that the reason for the trip is that the hut will not have a (fully constructed) roof when we go, we will be camping! ability to carry your own gear (tent, sleeping bag + mat, stove, food etc.) plus some extra supllies will be greatly appreciated.

as copied from Sonia’s trip posting which she copied from James’s trip posting: “this is very much on the working end of work hike, and we will be spending almost all of our time working on the roof. however if we finish early by some miracle, there's lots of good scrambling and hiking to be had up by the hut.”

if you want to help with the nitty-gritty of the construction, we ask that you’re comfortable using power tools and ideally know your way around ropes as we’ll be using them for safety on the roof (not required as we can teach you!).

phelix is such an awesome hut in a beautiful location and benefits many people - VOCers and non-VOCers alike so a super worthwhile cause. to quote our wonderful pres Sonia: “know you’ll always have some clout after helping us with this huge project.”
