Description:
Join Sri and Lucas for a fun day of backcountry skiing! The location for this trip will be Red Heather (An accessible spot for those just starting out backcountry skiing). This will be a chill, fun day where people can gain more experience in backcountry skiing. We'll go over some basic backcountry ski day trip planning, and gear, and practice skinning up and skiing down.
This trip is intended for those participating in the Steps Towards the Neve series - (see Trip Description). Signup priority on future Steps towards the Neve Trips (STTN) trips will be given to people on previous STTN.
Pre-requisite: Be able to ski green-blue runs, Stoke
Skills gained: Skinning, Survival skiing, Layering, Understanding avalanche forecasts, Familiarity with avy equipment, Dealing with faff.
People coming on the trip will need to have:
A) Some previous skiing experience (Being able to ski greens comfortably or able to get down a blue)
B) Be able to get their hands on the gear necessary for the trip. A list of gear can be found at https://www.ubcvoc.com/wiki/Gear_Lists#Winter_Day_Trip under winter day trip.
Most non-clothing things can be rented from the VOC!
