Description:
Hey folks!
As the end of the year rolls around, we’re now ready to start collecting trip reports and submissions for the 2023 VOC Journal.
If you’ve written a trip report this year, or have been planning to for a long time, this is your chance to share it with us and help us commemorate your adventures! No matter how epic, faffy, silly, or scary - we want to read your stories. Generally, Trip Reports are first person accounts of VOC trips and trips VOCers did, though they can also be reflections about outdoor philosophies, ethics, or just expressions of love for the mountains. They can be an instruction guide for how to make some piece of gear, or if you're really into the history of some outdoor sport, an article about it. Everything vaguely about non-motorized outdoor sports is welcome!
As with last year, we are using Google Drive to receive submissions - if you’re interested in submitting a trip report, please refer to the following steps to ensure everything gets submitted properly!
Deadline: January 15th (although the earlier the better) *EXTENDED*
Google Drive:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aHaXejjTYrPeLe6oRweTTsl6hxEi4JVj?usp=drive_link
Steps:
1) Sign up as interested for this trip if you plan on submitting a trip report!
2) Create a folder under your name in the google drive. Label the folder in the format “first name initial_last name”. I have created an example folder for reference (ex: A_BEAUCHEMIN).
3) Upload your trip report as a google doc into your folder. This google doc should only have text in it, as images will be uploaded separately. Try to follow trip report guidelines, such as using full names when you first introduce someone (more guidelines found on the wiki page here: https://www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/Trip_Reports). In the example folder, you'll find a google document that outlines the preferred submission format, including contact info, photo captions etc. - so please take a look before submitting your report!
Note: If you want to submit multiple trip reports (which we definitely encourage!), you can submit all of your different submissions in separate google docs within the same folder you created above.
4) Upload all associated pictures in JPG into a subfolder, still in the folder you created in step 2. Number them. If you are submitting multiple trip reports with photos, create multiple photo subfolders and specify which one is for which trip report.
5) If you are including picture credits and captions, write them down in a google doc and store it in the photo folder.
Refer to the A_BEAUCHEMIN folder in the google drive for the steps listed above.
The deadline for submissions is January 15 (EXTENDED). Please don't wait until the last minute to submit articles if they're already written - we really appreciate any extra editing time we can get. :) After the submission deadline, I will email folks to confirm that your trip reports have been accepted (we don't normally turn away submissions, so if you don't hear from me please reach out to ensure that we received your report).
If you have any questions, post them on the message board associated with this trip linked at the top of the page (preferred) or email me at [email protected]! I’ll be happy to clarify anything.
Thank you so much for making our journal so awesome! So stoked to get to read all of your epic trip reports and stories over the past year!
Alex (VOC 2023/24 Journal Editor)
P.S. If you're interested in helping to edit the articles, keep your eyes peeled for some editing parties in January!
