Description:
Excellent desert climbing on volcanic columns, open vistas, and… sand dunes?? Yep, central Washington has it all, and I’d like to take a trip out there over the family day long weekend. We’ll climb, sightsee, and hike a bit. If others are more keen to just climb they are more than welcome to stick around at the crag as well.
This trip will of course be subject to weather conditions - too cold or too rainy/snowy and we’ll have to cancel :(
Here’s a rough itinerary:
Friday, Feb 16
- depart from Vancouver in the morning
- load up at Grocery Outlet, Trader Joe’s, etc once stateside
- drive to Vantage/Frenchman Coulee and set up our base camp
- climb
Saturday, Feb 17
- climb climb climb
Sunday, Feb 18
- drive to Hanford Reach National Monument
- hike the White Bluffs Dunes trail
- maybe drive up to Wahatis Peak for the views (or some other peakbagging destination) - high clearance required
- return to camp
- alternatively, others can just keep on climbing if they choose to
Monday, Feb 19
- climb some more
- get in any last shopping in Bellingham
- drive back to Vancouver
For this trip, priority goes to those with cars, ropes, and Rock 3 or higher (as in experience with leading).
Things to bring:
- climbing stuff (duh)
- camping stuff
- each car needs a Washington Discover Pass, which can be acquired at REI
- hiking gear
- passport and any important visa info for the US or coming back to Canada
- lots of stoke
Feel free to get in touch with any questions!
