Description:
Looking to get out into the wonderful great outdoors before getting back into the grind of school this reading break, all while meeting new friends and connecting with our sister branch out in the Okanagan? Then this trip is for you! This upcoming reading break, the VOCO, the VOC out at UBC's Okanagan campus, is going to be joining us for a weekend of songbook singing, ski touring, snowshoeing, and general socializing out at Phelix hut! The VOCO folks will be out from Thursday to Sunday, so the trip will officially run for those dates. However, it's reading break, we'll have many cars, so car groups will be more than welcome to organize their own arrival/departure dates if they so wish. We are going to stuffing the hut past capacity so, weather-dependent, people are encouraged to sleep in tents!
Experience needed:
If you're planning on skiing/snowshoeing above the hut, AST-1 is required! AST is not required for the skintrack or for those who are only going to the hut. If you're skiing down the skintrack, it's best to be able to ski at least blues, or to be willing to take your skis off sporadically.
Gear needed:
Gear can be gone over more in-depth at the pre-trip meeting, but bring anything you'd want to bring for a winter camping trip. Some suggestions:
- Avalanche gear (probe, beacon, shovel)
- Skis/splitboard/Snowshoes
- Warm clothes
- Warm sleeping bag and mat, extra warm if sleeping in a tent.
- Food, fuel and a stove to cook it with
- HEADLAMP!!
At the pre-trip meeting, car groups, as well as tent and stove sharing, will be organized via a spreadsheet.
See you all then!
