Description:

Let's explore the Rockies !

The idea is to hike around Lake Louise, Lake Agnes, Lake Minnewanka, The Big Beehive, Lake Moraine, to the east of the Wapta icefields, camp around and enjoy the wilderness.

If we have the time we could also go to Jasper, make some stops and hike on the way there and in the park.

If the group has lots of time, we could also go to the parks of Yoho and Kootenay. I am open to any suggestion and happy to adapt to anyone’s ideas.

Here is a flexible schedule for a week, in Lake Louise and Banff:

Days 1, 2, 3 and 4: around Lake Louise

  • Day 1: Lake Louise lakeshore and camp at Canadian Rockies Retreat Campsite (easy day to rest from the long drive and to take it easy before the upcoming hikes)

  • Day 2: Devil’s Thumb and the Big Beehive from Lake Louise, same campsite (12kms, 935m elevation, about 5h)

  • Day 3: Consolation Lakes Trail (2h30) from Moraine Lake + Moraine Lake Lakeside (1h), same campsite

  • Day 4: Larch Valley from Moraine Lake (3h30) + Sentinel Pass from Moraine Lake (3h30), same campsite

Day 5, 6 and 7: around Banff

  • Day 5: Lake Minnewanka lakeside trail (the whole trail is more than 30 kms long so it would be a chunk of it, around 15 kms round trip) camp at Aylmer Pass Junction Campground

  • Day 6: Two-Jack Lake trail (1h) + Johnston Canyon (1h30) + Stewart Canyon Trail (1h45), same campsite

  • Day 7: Johnson Lake from Cascade Ponds (3h), same campsite

I'm pretty flexible, free from the May 22nd to mid/late June, so we could set a trip and adapt to the group's flexibilities. It would ideally be from the 31st of May and until the 18th of June. I’m happy to go from a week to three weeks ish, depending on how much we want to see and how available we are. It's also possible to set different trips of 1 week or so each, if it is more convenient for everyone.

I don’t have a car, and the group would ideally have at least one. However, if there is no driver in the group, we can bus to Banff and hike in the park, the bus network is pretty efficient so even if it would be easier with a car, it is still doable without one.

Good to know:

  • From Banff, you can buy a one-way fare to Johnston Canyon ($5), Lake Louise ($10) or Moraine Lake ($10) or you can buy a Super Pass ($25) to reserve multiple one-way seats in advance.

  • The Moraine Lake road is now permanently closed to personal vehicles year-round. To reach the Consolation Lakes trailhead, you can take the shuttle bus, public transit, or bike up the road from June to October.

Don't hesitate to email me if you've got any question or suggestion :)
