Description:
Russet Lake is a spectacular alpine destination accessible from Whistler and has long been on my list of places to visit. So, I've made reservations to camp out there just after I return from a work trip this summer. Unsurprisingly, the weekend was fully booked up so this trip will run Friday-Saturday. The plan is to backpack in from Whistler Village on Friday, then do some hiking/scrambling on Saturday before hiking out. The most likely objective will be Overlord Mountain, but if we have time we could try to squeeze in a scree slog up to Fissile as well. Or you are welcome to chill at the lake and enjoy the scenery there!
The trail to the lake includes a substantial gain of ~1500m elevation over 15km, so this isn't a beginner-friendly trip. Plan to bring the usual backpacking gear (see the club wiki for a comprehensive list). I've booked 3 tent pads for 12 people, so if we end up using all of those permit spaces we'll have to get creative with the tent situation but it should work out. Costs will include permit cost (which depends on how many end up joining, but should be ~$12-15 each) + gas.
Feel free to get in touch with any questions!
