Description:

Panorama Ridge was the place that I got bit by the metaphorical outdoor bug and when my desire for adventure really took off way back in my first year of university. After years of honing my skills and earning my chops in the outdoors, it feels like the time is ripe to return to the place where it all started and do a tour around Garibaldi Lake in one epic long weekend.

I am going to be emulating the circumnaviation that Allen Zhao lead last summer, which you could read about in more detail here: https://www.ubc-voc.com/2023/07/25/garibaldi-grand-tour

In terms of numbers, the circumnavigation will be about 64 km and 5900m of elevation gain over 4 days. To enjoy this trip and not have it be a slog, you should have experience in large overnight (or longer) backpacking trips and a solid level of fitness.

I have yet to decide what peaks I would like to scramble up, but the ones I have on my mind are Castle Towers, Deception Peak, and The Black Tusk. Some of the peaks will be 3rd/4th level scrambling so be prepared for that if you want to partake, but the rest of the route will be 2nd class, have some bushwhacking, and maybe some snow traverse at worst if you just want to hike around the lake.

I am using a lot of information from Allen's trip so credit to him for pioneering the route and the crew that did it. I wouldn't be doing this without your effort. https://www.ubc-voc.com/tripagenda/details.php?tripid=3357
