Description:

I would love to make it out to Bella Coola this summer!

The plan would be as follows:

Leave Friday the 2nd early in the morning (Bella Coola is a 12hr drive). Depending on how we're feeling, we can either complete the drive in one day or stop somewhere along the way. There are lots of options regarding where to stop if we decide to do that (Williams Lake, Talta Lake, 100 Mile House, etc.).

Arrive either Friday evening or Saturday Morning.

Once we are in bella coola, there are a lot of options for things to do. The ones that interest me most are: the ape lake trail, which has stunning views of glaciers and alpine lakes (around 46 km, would be challenging and take around 3 days), the hammer lake trail which is a subsection of the ape lake trail, sharing the same views (around 19 km, could be done in one big day or 2 days), and lastly visiting hunlen falls would be amazing (a 16.4 km hike with 800m elevation gain). I feel that we would either do hunlen falls and the hammer lake trail -- or just the ape lake trail. I am partial to the former.

The idea would be to leave either Monday or Tuesday, and be back in Vancouver on Tuesday Evening.

Bella Coola is a remote town in Central BC, we would be hiking in the backcountry with limited service. I would make sure you are comfortable with long hiking days in the backcountry with elevation gain.

Here are some helpful links I have found about both trails in my research:

Ape Lake Trail:

Hammer Lake Trail:

I will be prioritizing drivers, as I don't have a car. Your car should ideally be 4WD and have enough clearance to safely drive on Forest Service roads, most of the activities listed here require driving up an FSR.
