Description:
Get ready to wrestle some pebbles! (Bouldering)
This trip will feature a special guest: Bill Thompson! You may recognize him as the caretaker of the birdcoop climbing gym at UBC. He and I are here to help anyone with the transition to outdoor bouldering.

Who is this trip for?
-
This trip is intended as a beginner's trip and one that is meant to introduce climbers (first-time climbers & experienced indoor climbers) to the world of outdoor bouldering in Squamish. The intended grades will thus be in the V0-V3 range. If you are an experienced boulderer, you can, of course, join the trip! It will be a great way to get people connected! My only request is that more experienced boulderers help those who are just starting, whether it's their first time climbing or their first time outdoors. All are welcome on this trip! I intend to get as many people as possible, regardless of skill, to enjoy the magical forest of the Grand Wall Boulder area.
What do I need to bring?
-
Please bring a pair of climbing shoes, chalk, Lunch & snack; it is highly recommended to get a crash pad if you can arrange that. Ask friends, rent from the VOC, etc. The more crash pads, the better.
-
Rentals can be arranged through VOC, or we can swap with other people in the bouldering area.
-
Post-climb beer is a must. Preferably PBR.
What is expected in outdoor bouldering?
-
Have fun!
-
Be safe! Climb at your own discretion. Bouldering is a dangerous activity! Injuries can happen quickly, but there are ways to make them safe: Spotting, pad placement, etc. These will be covered in the pre-trip meeting.
-
Be respectful of others and the environment around you. LEAVE NO TRACE - this means picking up trash, staying on assigned paths, brushing chalk marks and ticks, etc. This will also be covered in the pre-trip.
Where will this take place?
-
The trip will occur at the grand wall bouldering areas just below the chief in Squamish. This area is accessible by bus via the Sea To Sky Gondola stop, a 5-minute hike away. See the Squamish Connector website if needed; however, getting a ride with friends is preferable.
-
We will mostly be climbing around the Titanic Area, which includes many problems V0-V3. Still, participants are also welcome to wander around, provided they have pads to use.
What will the day look like?
-
Meet at the Grand Wall parking lot around 9am
-
Climb at the Titanic area & other areas until around 4-5pm
-
Possible early dinner at the field near the parking area 6-8. Post-climb beer is an essential item.
