Description:
The outhouse at Phelix Hut has been needing some love for a while now, and we're finally going to take care of it! The plan is to dig a new hole and move the existing outhouse structure over until we can come up with a more permanant fix to our problems.
Hopefully, we'll have two teams going: one for digging a new hole, and the other for moving and fixing up the outhouse. Ideally, if people are keen and available, we'll get a group to head up on friday to get a head start on the digging. There's plenty of work to do, but with the right amount of stoke, I'm sure it'll be a fun time ;) Plus, it's a great chance to give back to the club - and don't forget, workhikes are technically required if you want to rent gear.
This trip is fairly beginner-friendly since the hike isn't too long or technical, but you should still have some basic hiking or backpacking experience. We'll be carrying some heavy gear from the parking lot because who needs a helicopter when you've got a team of stoked VOCers? This means you should be fit and strong enough to help out with this part of the trip. The goal is to get the hole dug and the outhouse moved so we don't have to make another trip the weekend after.
We should still be able to drive up to the summer trailhead, which will cut the hike in half, but this does require 4WD vehicles with decent clearance.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! Cheers.
