Start: Friday, Oct. 11th, 7:00 am

Description:

[Date changed to Friday from its original time on Tuesday due to rain]

The third run in the Vertical Kilometer (VK) series features Trail 4: an obscure access to Wreck Beach located behind the Norman MacKenzie house. This steep and narrow staircase will provide a greater challenge than both the Wreck Beach or Tower Beach VKs. Prepare yourself.

Caltopo claims the route is 74m, and I measured 71m on my watch during my test run. This means we will need to run the stairs 14 times to get our 1000m of gain.

Come join me at 7:00am on a school day to experience (or re-experience) the joys of lapping the staircase. We will meet at the top of the stairs, at which point everyone can run (or more realistically, power-walk) up and down the stairs at their own pace. When you have completed your 14th lap, stop your clock.

Remember to bring lots of water (you can leave it at the top of the stairs).

You can find the entrance to Trail 4 here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/EbvA6yPfpJ3usD7e9

We will meet at the top of the stairs, meaning you need to walk some distance down the trail to start. The coordinates of the top of the stairs are 49.26877, -123.26113
