Description:

Want to see the famous golden larches backdropped with an amazing golden sunrise? Busy weekend and can't make it out to the other Frosty mountain larch hikes?

Come join me as we hike through the night to be welcomed to the warm hues of the morning sun and be surrounded by vibrant yellows and golds of the autumn larches!

Plan: Leave the metro Vancouver area between 1:00-2:00am Monday morning, Oct. 7th (aka try to sleep Sunday, Oct. 6th evening).

Trail: Frosty Mountain from Lightning Lakes Day Use Area, E.C Manning Provincial Park

NOTE: We are not expecting to ascend Frosty Mountain. If we do, we'll decide as a group based on energy levels, time, and conditions. We'll likely stop somewhere where all the larches are just before the climb up to the summit.

  • Distance: ~24km (round-trip)
  • Elevation gain: ~1,000m
  • Terrain: Dirt singletrack similar to Garibaldi Lake via Rubble Creek, elevation was evenly spread out.

What You Need:

  • Pack as you would during any cooler weather fall day hike. Expect temperatures to be anywhere from 0-9 Celsius during the night and early morning.
  • HEADLAMPS ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY.
  • Previous hiking experience necessary. Pace expected to be moderate, between 3-5km per hour with some breaks.

Any questions feel free to reach out to me! If you're using text or discord, make sure to let me know it's for the trip.
