Description:

Despite only being here for half a year, I brought my bikepacking bags with me from Australia and bought a gravel bike when I arrived. Now I have to do at least one bikepacking trip to make it worthwhile.

After some research, I found the Sea to Sky Trail which looks stunning. Would be keen to do this bikepack with a few others (a group of 3-5 would be ideal) if anyone is keen! See this link for route details: https://bikepacking.com/routes/bikepacking-sea-to-sky-trail/

This would be the plan:

Friday

  • Take a 5:30pm bus from downtown to Squamish, arrive at 6:30pm
  • Ride for a short time (~10km) to get to Alice Lake Provincial Park
  • Camp overnight

Saturday

  • Ride as far as we can, aim to camp past Whistler at Riverside RV park (or even Nairn Falls campground closer to Pemberton if we can make it). ~50km to Whistler or ~90km to Pemberton.

Sunday

  • Ride the final section into Pemberton, then ride back to Whistler/take a bus back to Whistler
  • Take a 7pm bus from Whistler to arrive back in Vancouver at 8:45pm

Apparently the trail goes as far up as D'arcy, but including this last section might be a bit tough. One option is to try for 100km on the Saturday to get to Pemberton, then do an out and back to D'arcy on Sunday (~90km) and catch the bus back from Pemberton.

This trip is probably only suitable for at least intermediate bikepackers who have already done some offroad trips. It seems like at least a 40mm tyre width is suggested for the trail, but I might be tackling it with 35mm tyres if I don't get around to upgrading them for this. There are also apparently a lot of steep, punchy climbs, so good low gears will help (otherwise, hike-a-biking is always an option)

This trip will probably go ahead rain or shine, unless really heavy rain is forecast.

If anyone has a car and bike racks and can make some logistics easier, that could be helpful.
