Organized by: Sau-Nam Chan.

Start: Wednesday, Oct. 23rd, 6:30 pm

Description:

NOTE: This is strictly a member-run event, I am not a VOC exec nor was I an instructor during G1. G1 instructors and others with glacier travel experienced are welcomed to help out!

Slight timing change. Was 6:00pm but changed it to 6:30pm.

Looking to gather some G1 trainees and other interested folk to practice some of the skills we learned over the G1 Glacier School weekend!

We learned some crucial safety and emergency skills that need to be practiced, so over the coming months we'll combine our collective brains, muscle memory, and internet access to keep them fresh.

This session we'll focus on: Hauling systems for crevasse rescue.

I recommend looking through some videos and diagrams of haul systems before coming to the session just to minimize how much time we're having to look up them up on Youtube the day-of.

Time & Location: Meet outside the VOC Clubroom at 6:30pm on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd. If weather is favourable, we may move outside so be prepared for that.

What to Bring:

Please bring your harness and everything that was attached to it during G1:

  • 4x locking carabiners
  • 2-4x non-locking carabiners
  • 2x prussik cord
  • Anchor building material (cordelettes/slings)
  • If you have anything else that will help with building a haul system (e.g. pulleys) bring them as well

I can bring a retired rope that will work for what we need to do, as we won't be hanging off it.

Any questions, feel free to contact me! If you were a G1 instructor or have quite a bit of glacier experience and wish to help out, also welcomed to connect with me and join as well!
