Description:
Last night, I went to the (free!) public ice skating at the Father Bauer Arena in the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre for the first time. I plan to head back on Tuesday to skate the ever-growing darkness away and enjoy the bright lights and trashy pop music. Unfortunately, this is an indoor activity but it gets the Canadian winter feels going nonetheless.
I thought I'd put this on the voc radar as it might be of interest, especially to those who have never skated before. You don't need any experience and you can rent skates too. (The only information I can find online says it is $4, but I saw many many people with rentals so it can't be that bad.) They even have those things you can push in front of you to stabalize your balance. I'm not a great skater, but I enjoy skating mediocr-ly and would be happy to be there and help anyone who feels unsteady/wants someone to skate with.
For anyone who signs up, we can meet at the Pro Shop inside the Sports Center at 9:40 pm. Skating opens at 9:45.
Even if you can't make it out Tuesday, here's the drop-in schedule in case you want to check it out another time: https://recreation.ubc.ca/ice/drop-in-ice/
