Join us for Step 2 of Steps to the Neve!

This trip is intended for those interested in participating in the Steps to the Neve series. As this is the second trip in the series, sign-up priority will be given to those who have participated in Step 1.

Prerequisites: you were a participant on Step 1, or have equivalent skills: Comfortable skiing green-blue runs, skinning, and understanding of avalanche forecasts and risks (including completion of AvySavvy).

Skills gained: Packing & food for longer day trips, alpine starts, skinning technique, safety and group choices in open alpine terrain

The goal of Step 2 is to get participants comfortable completing a long day trip on skis. We’ll be headed to Manning Park, and skinning up Fat Dog Trail to Three Brothers Mountain. This trail is on the longer side for a day trip, but gains elevation gently. This means that both the ascent and descent will take place in very mellow terrain, while still being physically challenging to someone who hasn’t spent an entire day on skis before.

The Fat Dog trailhead is located approximately 2.5 hours from Vancouver, and will require an early morning to make the most of the little daylight. The trail is 11km and 900 m elevation gain one way (approximately two Red Heathers).

Gear will for the most part be the same as for Step 1, and can be rented from the VOC - just make sure all your things fit together and won’t cause you anguish.
