Start: Thursday, Dec. 26th
Pre-trip meeting: Monday, Dec. 23rd
Pre-trip meeting location: Zoom
Description:
Mt Crickmer is a fairly low summit (~1400m) near Maple Ridge and just east of Golden Ears. It is not the most popular objective around here, but does boast exceptional views, especially of local legends like Mt Robie Reid or the Judge (those peaks are even more beautiful in the winter).
If you're staying in the city during the holidays and itching to get out, join me in this winter wonderland!
The route:
The trail is about 18km with 1,200m of elevation gain, so I would rate this as intermediate friendly. If you've never snowshoed before but you are an average+ hiker you won't have issues here. Most of the route is on an old logging road which usually makes for pleasant and easy travel in the winter. The steepest part of the trail is in the forest before gaining the ridge (similar to the trails around Lions Bay) and only the very end of the route at the top looks like alpine terrain but is quite mellow. This makes it a fairly safe option due the (almost) absence of avy terrrain.
Logistics:
The goal will be to leave Vancouver around 6.30am and be on the trail around 8am (days are very short). The goal here is really to soak in the views, so if Dec 26th doesn't have good weather I may reschedule it to the 27th, 28th or 29th! (I'll find a plan B if non of those days have good weather in that area). Obviously if avy conditions are not good we will also reschedule (below treeline doesn't mean safe!).

Notes:
-Winter backcountry travel is inherently risky even on the easiest trails and I am not a certified guide. Please be aware of your own skills and capabilities before signing up! (there's nothing wrong with just getting started with hiking, but if this your case, this is not a trip for you)
