Description:
Welcome back for round two of the Varsity Outdoor Club International Extravaganza! This time, we will be going to Egypt for just over two weeks! The plan would be to visit all the main sites in the North around Cairo and Alexandria, before heading south along the Red Sea (Car rental or Bus) to enjoy some time scuba diving and taking in the waves. After the beachside vacation finishes, we will head back inland again to travel up the Nile back toward Cairo, making stops at Luxor and the Valley of Kings, Thebes and other historical sites!
This trip will require a little bit more of a travel-savvy attitude than the previous trip to Thailand, but with some experience and situational awareness, we should be good! There are concerns for women (particularly solo) travelling in Egypt, so please keep this in mind before deciding if this trip is right for you.
We will once again be travelling on standby tickets, so the guarantee of a seat is not expected... It is possible that one or more of us will not be able to get the flights there or back due to a lack of available seating. You must be able to purchase a full ticket if I cannot provide a standby seat. (This time we will be flying with other airlines (Not Air Canada) so I do not have accurate load information.)
Unfortunately, we will only have space for one person on this trip, as I feel the chances with more would make the likelihood of missing a flight too great. Because of this, It will not be first-come-first-served.
Total cost of the round-trip flight on standby: Approx $550 CAD
Total cost of the round-trip flight confirmed seat: Approx $1300 CAD
Excluding airfare, the costs while in Egypt are extremely low. We can expect to spend less than $20 per night/person for accommodations and less than $20 per day for food. Miscellaneous costs for tours, museums, and historical sites should not be excessive.
