Description:

SISU (see soo) is a Finnish construct for bravery, determination and resilience. The VOC and UBC SISU are collaborating for the ultimate beginner-friendly* weekend snowshoe trip to Brew Hut (13.2 km with 1300 m of elevation). The plan is to get a bunch of strong and courageous women and gender-diverse people out for an overnight snowshoe trip and hopefully introduce some of you to SISU. Also, March 8th happens to be International Women's Day!

Because of how things work on the SISU side, there will be a Google form used as a ‘committed list’. A link to the Google form will be sent out to you if you sign up as interested on the signup page. You will also have to attend the mandatory pre-trip meeting on Tuesday, March 4th, at 7 pm, in the VOC clubroom. We are aiming for a group of around 15, but we will ultimately determine the group size by making sure there is a balance of beginners and more experienced people. Please reach out if you have snowshoe/avy knowledge, can drive, or/and are willing to be a helper, you will get priority.

Required skills for the trip

*Beginner-friendly is a term used loosely here. Prior snowshoe and/or overnight experience is incredibly helpful, but adequate fitness and a positive mindset will also suffice. No one who comes on the trip will be left behind! That being said because of where Brew Hut is located, this trip is best for people with:

-prior hiking experience: this trip would be like doing the Grouse Grind 1.5 times in elevation

-endurance: you should be able to hike for longer than 3 hours with an overnight pack

If you are unsure if this trip is for you, reach out to me and we can chat!
