We will ski across the Garibaldi Neve over 3 days. This is one of my favourite, fairly beginner friendly ski traverses!
For this trip you need to be relatively fit, have tried skiing with an overnight pack before and be able to get down the equilvalent of a blue run skiing (gracefully or comfortably skiing this is not necessary).
Helpers who have done the traverse before would be great! People who have done the other Steps to the Neve trips will be given priority but everyone with some overnight skiing experience are welcome to join.
Dates and conditions:
The beginner friendly version of the Neve is typically done over three days. Day 1 we will ski to the Elfin Lakes warming shelter, Day 2 across the Neve to Burton Hut and Day 3 across Garibaldi Lake to Rubble Creek. In total the trip is ~40km with ~2000m of elevation gain. On Day 2, if it is sunny (hopefully) we will need to cross under the Gargoyles early to avoid the avalanche hazard there. The Neve is a glacier and in a whiteout can be difficult to cross so we will aim for dates that given us good weather on Day 2 of the trip. This means we may go March 28-30 or March 29-31 depending on the weather on the Saturday or Sunday (if neither day works we will postpone the trip to April 4-6). If you are fit and cannot take the whole Friday or Monday off, you are welcome to ski up to Elfin on the Friday afternoon/evening or ski out from Burton Hut on the Sunday night. We can discuss the specific dates and logistics at the pre-trip meeting.
