Description:
This summer, we need to replace the walls at our biggest hut: Brian Waddington Hut (also known as Phelix). This will be a massive effort and will require a ton of help from VOCers. You don’t need any experience in construction to help. We’ll teach you what you need to know. Anyone willing to put in some hard work is encouraged to sign up. If you’re interested, read on for more details about the schedule, required gear, and how planning will work.
Below is the approximate construction schedule. If you have availability in this date range, sign up as interested in the trip. Once committed opens, I’ll send out a spreadsheet where you can outline your availability more thoroughly. We’ll have a pre-trip before the construction starts. Longer stints are preferred, but weekends and shorter trips are also quite useful.
July 11th - July 15th: Demolition / Helicopter work
July 15th - August 5th: Main construction (end date may change)
For gear, the club can supply most things except steel-toed boots. We have some steel-toed boots, and I expect many in the club will be willing to loan them out, so I would suggest asking around for your size ahead of time.
Steel-toed boots (borrow from friends or other VOCers)
Helmet with minimal gaps (can borrow from club)
Climbing harness (can borrow from club)
Other PPE will be provided on-site.
