Description:

Note: trip details heavily borrowed from Sri’s bikepacking series

Welcome! Bikepacking the Gulf Islands is my absolute favourite way to spend my summers and I hope it’ll be yours too by the end of this trip (if it isn’t already!).

On this trip, we’ll be biking to Mayne Island. Expect BC ferries, salt air, island vibes, stunning beaches, and HILLS. Although it will be physically challenging, this trip is beginner-friendly. I hope to introduce bikepacking to others by providing a friendly and supportive environment. That being said, you should be comfortable riding long distances (~50km).

Backcountry camping experience is also beneficial but not required - we will go through what’s needed to be self-sufficient. This is also a great way to get camping experience as we will never be too far from civilization.

Trip Overview

  • Destination: Mayne Island
  • Approx. total distance: To and back from Ferry: 60KM, Mayne: 40KM
  • Elevation: Mayne: 500m,  500m
  • Pre-trip: Zoom meeting to go over the trip and route in more detail and answer any questions and/or concerns

Logistics

  • We will be using Tsawwassen ferry terminal for our sailings [Eburne → Tsawwassen Terminal: 30km Minimal Elevation]
  • Meet up at Eburne Park just before the bridge
  • Group ride to the George Massey Bike Shuttle to cross the tunnel
  • Continue the group ride until the ferry terminal
  • You can also just transit directly to the terminal or any section on the way
  • Similar situation on the way back :)
Associated Costs
  • Campground Fees (Where applicable) → Variable
  • Ferry Tickets → $30 - $60
  • Food
Further logistics and exact costs will be finalized during the pre-trip
