Guidebooks
This pages lists some guidebooks for the area. You might also want to check the VOC library in the clubroom.
Guidebooks for the Vancouver Area
103 Hikes in Southwestern British Columbia by Mary MacAree, David MacAree is an excellent guidebook for easy-moderate hiking in the area. The library in the clubroom has two copies of this book (although one is of a very old edition).
Alpine Select by Kevin McLean is a good guide to the best mountaineering and alpine climbing routes around Vancouver. The VOC Library has a copy of this book.
Climbing and Hiking in Southwest British Columbia by Bruce Fairly is the most recent comprehensive alpine climbing and mountaineering guide for this area. However, it was published in 1986 and many approaches have changed dramatically since. Roads and trails that were easy are now completely overgrown, and new roads make access to other areas easy.
Scrambles in Southwest British Columbia by Matt Gunn, 2005 is a good book that serves as a bridge between hiking and full-on mountaineering. See http://cairnpublishing.com/guidebooks/scrambles.htm for more information.
Exploring the Coast Mountains on Skis by John Baldwin.
Guidebooks for the Canadian Rockies
Selected Alpine Climbs in the Canadian Rockies by Sean Doughtery
Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies by Alan Kain.
