I don't think we necessarily need to tell people to avoid down. I think it does a great job in reasonable situations. Certainly better than carrying around a fleece for warmth in winter. I guess we (or I) could explain the ups and "downs" of down and synthetic. Scott Webster 22:10, 17 March 2007 (PST)

I agree. IMO in cold conditions (<-5C) down is vastly superior, even if it's snowing hard. Scott Nelson 10:08, 18 March 2007 (PST)

You guys are right. I certainly prefer down in the right conditions as well. I didn't in any way mean to suggest sythnethic is always best. But for simplicity I didn't want ot go into details so suggested one thing for this climate. Everything else being a veriable, I still think synthetic is a better choice becuase it is idiot proof. Explaining the pros and cons of each is good idea to help people make their own gear choice. Should a section on gear choices be added here, or to one of the pages specifically on gear, with a link added here?

I updated the page to simply warn against the risk of down getting wet. This page probably isn't the best place for a detailed discussion of the merits of different type of clothing, but a link to a new page would certainly be in order. Scott Nelson 12:01, 18 March 2007 (PST)

Looks good. You get the same point accross in a less opinionated way.

Thanks for cathcing all those other little edits and typos guys.
