Plural names for categories
I would think that it might be best to pluralize certain category names where the category describes a collection of things. I.e. huts instead of hut, Hiking Trips, etc.
Also, I think that hiking and backpacking are really the same thing, so there's no need for seperate categories, since hiking is all inclusive.

Well, that's what I get for trying to do it at 5 in the morning. I think you're right about the plural names, it makes more sense.
As for hiking vs. backpacking, I did have a reason. Hiking was meant to hold hikes that can be done with minimal gear, day trips etc, while backpacking was intended to convey that sleeping gear, and an overnight stay would be necessary/optimal. I'll leave it be for now and work on something else...
I moved most of the categories to Plural Names, but I wonder if simply Hiking and Mountaineering would be better names instead of Hiking Trips and Mountaineering Trips

I agree. Also, Rock Climbing should probably just be Climbing so we can put the bouldering stuff in there and be more general all around (indoor walls, etc.). You don't really need to do the dirty work of modifying the individual pages that link to a category either, just moving it will fix all the links...
Perhaps moving all the Hiking/Climbing etc. trip categories to the top level, and doing away with the Trips suffix is a good idea here, there's not really enough content that we need the distinction. Any trip ideas can simply be added to both categories.
