My pants did explode on seeing the interactive map. Currently the contours are hidden under the glaciers... can we change the layer order? Also, given the incredible advances made in the last couple days, perhaps it would somehow be possible to add an UTM layer? Awesome work... Scott Webster 16:16, 29 February 2008 (PST)

I don't think so, at least it doesn't look like there is a UTM grid layer in the xml specifications file. Oh, my pants exploded too, awesome work Chris. --Matthew 19:59, 29 February 2008 (PST)
I wonder if there is anything like the openlayers functionality but linked to the iMapBC framework instead of the BC basemap - because that has every layer under the sun customisable (almost)... being able to embed iMapBC maps would allow a UTM grid and would basically be the holy grail of voc wiki online mapping. --Matthew 20:03, 29 February 2008 (PST)
We can pull in a layer from a different source and overlay it. I'm sure someone out there has a WMS server that can serve up a UTM grid. I'm going to try to resolve the projection issue first. Shouldn't be a problem. We can request a number of different projections from the WMS server. The only thing is that we have to specify the bounding box in coordinates known to that projection (for example in BC Albers). So we just need to be able to translate lat/lon to bc albers or maybe we can get a projection that speaks UTM natively which would be ideal. Chris Michalak 20:07, 29 February 2008 (PST)
Just got your iMapBC message (edit conflict). Yes, I'm kind of seeing if we can access the iMapBC's wms server directly, but I think it may not be directly accessible from the internet. Chris Michalak 20:07, 29 February 2008 (PST)
I've been in email communication with people that work on iMapBC before - maybe it would be worth emailing to see if they know of some info on public availability. The most recent contact I had was with [email protected] --Matthew 20:37, 29 February 2008 (PST)

So I was able to find a nice annotated UTM grid on http://webmap.em.gov.bc.ca:80/liteview6.5/servlet/MapGuideLiteView and am currently overlaying it on top of the openmaps map (note that we can use the libcwms server too if people find that this makes nicer maps). The problem however is that we are currently using EPSG:4326 projection which makes squares into rectangles... We want to use the EPSG:326xx family of projections (ie: 32610 for UTM zone 10). openmaps and libcwms servers are happy to oblige. I've tested this it works fine. But the problem is that the webmap.em.gov.bc.ca server that is providing the UTM grid can only generate EPSG:4326 projections. So... Does anyone know "off hand" of a WMS server that will make a UTM grid layer in the 326xx projection? Chris Michalak 17:37, 1 March 2008 (PST)

Broken links

The example links on the page don't work anymore. Interactive map still works. Scott Webster 12:57, 24 February 2009 (PST)

Fixed, kind of. The small map looks ugly. If you click on it the big map looks good. If you want to play with the layers and figure out what I need to do to get the WMS server to give me good looking small maps, let me know and I'll fix it. Chris Michalak 18:43, 24 February 2009 (PST)
If you change the scale, you can get more detail in the non-interactive map. Scale=105 is the minimum to show the detailed layers. Scott Nelson 22:28, 24 February 2009 (PST)
