Description:

Im going on a solo tour around lower Vancouver island and thought it would be nice to have some VOCers join me for my last night. Ruckle park on salt spring (google it - it's awesome). Looking for a co-trip leader who can actually be there day-of because I'll be biking from Sooke (email me if interested!)

Bike to tswassen taking the bike shuttle. Ferry to Swartz Bay Victoria. Transfer to fulford harbor salt spring OR take the direct ferry to salt spring but it's more biking from long harbor to ruckle. I'll let the co-trip leader decide on the plan.

Cost is for ferry about $20 each way max, campground about $5/person I think, maybe $10. I'd recommend splitting into groups of 3-4 and meeting at the ferry/campground. Biking with more than 4 people is quite difficult. This is a good opportunity in trip planning and leadership skills to practice being a mini trip leader (and anyway on any VOC trip you really should be self-sufficient and know the way).

Update - now there's an awesome bike shuttle that follows the 620 bus from Bridgeport in Richmond. https://www.reddit.com/r/vancouvercycling/comments/v3f565/tsawwassen_ferry_bike_bus_new/ so total distance for the trip is about 25-30km!! 16km from VOC clubroom to Bridgeport then 10km on salt spring.

Pretrip likely on Wednesday or Thursday by the future co-trip leader

Requirements: working bike, spare tube, front and rear lights, helmet, car camping experience, can bike 70km over a whole day (it's not too bad), panniers or a big backpack because the distance is so short, but I'd highly recommend panniers/strapping stuff to your rack. VOC rents out panniers and bike kitchen sells used bike racks for cheap
