Start: Saturday, Aug. 3rd
End: Monday, Aug. 5th
Pre-trip meeting: Wednesday, Jul. 31st, 8:00 pm
Pre-trip meeting location: Zoom
Description:
Update: pre-trip meeting now 8 pm (not 7 pm).
Do you like hiking up mountains? Do you like alpine lakes? Wildflowers? Camping? Fun? Then this is the trip for you!
I've long been meaning to visit Barkley Valley and the Twin Lakes, an alpine area about 30 km east of the Phelix hut. The BC Day weekend seems like the perfect opportunity!
The plan is to camp right next to a wilderness alpine lake and do some short scrambles nearby. It will probably be just us, alpine lakes, and wildflowers (no outhouse), but it is possible we will see other hikers too. While this is not an instructional trip, adventurous and fit beginners are welcome, though you should have experience with at least day hikes in the mountains.
Pre-trip meeting
The pre-trip meeting will be Wednesday, July 31 at 8 pm on Zoom. Check the signup page for the Zoom link. If you want to come on the trip but can't come to the pre-trip meeting, email me before the meeting.

Itinerary
We'll leave Saturday morning and try to be over the Lionsgate Bridge by 7:00 am. We will meet at the Pemberton McDonald's at around 9:00 am, then drive together to the trailhead. I'm not sure how high up the FSR we'll be able to drive—this will depend on road conditions. Our hike to the camp will probably be around 12 km with 1200 m elevation gain. That's a lot of elevation gain, so it will feel like a lot of hiking uphill. The hike will probably take around 8 hours, so if we start hiking 10:00 am, we might get to the campsite at 6:00 pm. (Though it could also end up being a few hours faster than this.)
On Sunday, we will scramble up nearby Crystal and/or Elliott Peaks. If some people prefer, they can stay by the campsite and explore the lakes more. On Monday, we'll hike down and drive back to Vancouver.
Weather
The weather is likely to be quite warm, though it may get cool at night. Saturday and Sunday will probably be dry but it might rain on Monday.
