Description:
A CoC successor to satisfy your caving cravings. This will be a full value weekend of caving around Port Alberni, on Vancouver Island. This trip is aimed at participants that have been caving with the VOC in past years, and are psyched to get underground again and develop their skills.
We'll do some subterrainean exploration of the Rift Creek caves together as a group and there will be opportunity to learn a bit about cave rigging as we go. But overall this is not an instructional trip; participants must be fully competent at ascending/descending ropes and passing rebelays. Participants must be prepared and able to potentially ascend ropes in a waterfall. One of the caves is dry(-ish) and the other is wet, so you must be prepared for cold water exposure (wetsuit up!)
The group size will be limited to two vehicles, We'll split off into 2x 4-5 person groups for caving day trips, then all camp together and warm our bodies around the fire.
This trip will not necessarily be first come first served. Priority will be given to those with proven to meet the pre-reqs listed below. Sign up closes and we will try to finalize the group on Nov 21st.
Requirements and priority:

Caving experience; priority to past cousin of cave attendees that are st0ked. I know who you are.

Bring your own SRT gear and know how to use it efficiently

Ability to ascend/ descend ropes efficiently, SRT change-overs, passing rebelays. Nobody will be there to guide you through these, so you must be self sufficient.

Wetsuits required. 4mm+ recommended
Vague Itinerary:

Saturday: First ferry out, Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo. Drive to around Port Alberni. Caving! Car camping at logging road pull out.

Sunday: Caving! Drive home, late ferry back to the mainland.

This trip is rain or shine! Expect a late and muddy return to Vancouver on Sunday night. This trip will be co-led by your dirty Uncles; Charlotte and I.
