We could add a section on altimeters, their uses in navigation (especially in the mountains)... how they work (or don't) etc. Scott Webster 00:14, 19 October 2006 (MDT)

NTS maps

As some people have probably noticed, the government has been reducing effort on the paper maps recently (for example, moving to the plotted maps) and increasing effort on the online ones (the new Atlas of Canada/toporama site). Anyway, I just read an article online saying that the government has scrapped their plans to cancel the paper maps, due to public outcry. I'm not sure if this means that they are going to start printing good paper maps again.... or just continue allowing the plotted ones or what. The article also said that the plans that they had scrapped were to get rid of the paper ones and go to offering them online... I'm not sure if they meant the new toporama site, or something else. Certainly I'd love to be able to download exact copies of the paper maps... the toporama site doesn't seem to allow grid lines etc, and is therefore inferior in many ways to the paper maps. Not sure how this is relevant to this article, but I thought I'd post this somewhere. Scott Webster 12:37, 20 October 2006 (MDT)
