Trail Blazers and Bug Swatters: Heather Trail Odyssey
In July’s embrace, from Vancouver they hailed,
Eight VOC weekend warriors – nobody bailed!
Manning Park awaited, Heather Trail in sight,
With missed buses and faff, they started their flight.
At 10 am the journey began,
To lush meadows and type 1 fun.
Kicking Horse camp, their night’s repose,
Flowers and mountains, where the beauty grows.
Like a postcard from dreams, the landscape unfurled,
Truly, what a wonderful world!
Tent pads claimed, mosquitoes fierce and bold,
Afternoon walk brought relief, as stories were told.
Three Brothers Mountain, their next day’s quest,
With no clusterfucks and no sufferfest.
A trail runner’s aid for their group photo call,
Captured VOC spirit amidst mountains tall.
The weekend flew by with cheer,
Fueled by bug spray, so precious and dear.
Fake dragonflies on hats, a quirky defense,
Against bugs relentless, it all made sense.
Stories flowed freely, of safaris and more,
Of studies, scrambles, and food galore.
Under baking sun and flowers’ perfume,
Low output march with the summer’s fume.
With no sketchy parts, under sun’s golden gleam,
O, Heather Trail, a trek beyond a dream,
With the scent of flowers our stoke did grow,
Forever etched, in Heather Trail’s glow.
